Bad news for Chelsea's Samuel Eto'o pursuit

Talk persists regarding Chelsea and Samuel Eto'o, but it appears no deal will be done this summer.

Ever since Anzhi Machachkala announced their intention to 'downsize' their project and sell off a number of stars, high earner Samuel Eto'o has been subject of much speculation.

The Premier League club closest linked to his signature is Chelsea, given their search for a striker, financial strength, and his former manager at Inter Milan, Jose Mourinho.

The player even said he would be happy to work with Mourinho once again, stating: "There is only one Jose Mourinho. I played for many great coaches but there is no other coach like Jose within the sport. He is one of the best coaches in the world and we had a lot of success at Inter Milan I would go back to play with it - because there is no dull moment with him in charge of things."

But the club's chances of landing the Cameroonian international is looking unlikely, after reports suggested Anzhi are not selling their highest earner this transfer window.

The Russian season is now underway, and any sell off of their stars clearly needs to be gradual, rather than a sudden mass exodus, and owner Suleiman Kerimov intends on Eto'o sticking around a little while longer, and has convinced the striker to hang around.

Russian newspaper Izvestia reports: "After talking with the owner of the team, Samuel Eto'o, despite the great interest in his services by various top European clubs (has) decided to stay in the Anzhi at least until the winter.

"The owner of Anzhi Suleiman Kerimov has great respect to the star Cameroonians and wants to keep him in their team."

Eto'o's quotes regarding Mourinho appear to have been given prior to Anzhi's reports, and despite being picked up by the British media over the past 24 hours, may just be out of date already.

Izvestia insist Eto'o will stay with Anzhi until the January transfer window at least, and stay as a leader and see how this present season pans out.

It is likely he will leave in due course though, maybe but best to file his name under 'potential January transfer targets' rather than expecting him to make a move before this window closes.
