Arsenal have been studying the prospect of signing Colombian youngster Sebastian Perez over the past fortnight.
But it appears a move may now no longer be on for the 20-year-old defensive midfielder.
Perez featured in the final 20 minutes of their friendly win over Manchester City at the weekend, impressing a number of fans with his uncompromising approach.
But it appears a deal may now be off the table completely.
South American journalist Juan Arango claimed on Twitter that the player has been sent back to Atletico Nacional in Colombia due to a failure to attain a work permit.

Perez is a regular with Colombia's under-20 squad, but has yet to win a senior cap for his country - criteria which would help him qualify.
It means Arsenal's time and effort would have all been for nothing, and leave them looking at new options.
It is yet to be confirmed by the club of course, but the likelihood is that Perez will not be wearing Arsenal colours next season.
One of the knock on effects could be that it helps the club decide to step up their chase of Brazilian international Luiz Gustavo, available from Bayern Munich.
What do you think of the news? Disappointed or an opportunity to go for Gustavo?
