Olympique Lyonnais have been going through a stage of rebuilding this summer - with president Jean-Michel Aulas keen to trim his massive wage bill.
That has seen the likes of Anthony Reveillere, Lisandro Lopez and Dejan Lovren leave the club - while the future of others have been called into question.
Two such players were Clement Grenier and Yoann Gourcuff - with both players linked with a move to Arsenal this summer.
Grenier was heavily linked with the Gunners after he openly admitted he would be tempted by a North London switch - however he signed a new deal with Lyon in July to put an end to that transfer talk.
Gourcuff on the other hand is still the subject of transfer talk. Arsene Wenger is a long-term fan of the talented former AC Milan and Bordeaux man - whose recent career has been blighted by injury.
However that interest seems to have died - but Ligue 1 outfits Rennes and Lorient, where his dad is the manager, have both been linked with bringing him in. That was due to worries over his first-team role in the club.
But judging by his performance in yesterday’s 4-0 romp against last season’s surprise package Nice he is certainly going to be a first-team regular.
Gourcuff was the man-of-the match in the performance - and with good reason.
He was involved in three of the four goals - including bagging one himself with a sublime 35-yeard free-kick and delivering an excellent assist to Grenier, who captained the side on the night, for the teams second.
He also set up Alexandre Lacazette for the third goal - a feat repeated by Grenier for the opener of what was an inspiring performance from Remi Garde’s men.
It seems that both will not only be staying at the Stade Gerland - but playing a vital role in the clubs ambition for the season.
Maybe next summer Arsenal will come back in for the pair of them…
Here is the fan reaction to Gourcuff’s wonderful free-kick…
