Chelsea to be second best this coming season ?

Chelsea may end up winning silverware this coming season, but it's not likely to be the Premiership title - at least according to our pundits.

With the Premier League season just one week away, 13 of our football pundits have put their heads together to give you a comprehensive set of predictions.

Each pundit predicted where each Premier League club will finish the season, with 20 points for the club predicted to finish 1st, down to 1 point for the club finishing bottom.

We then added up all the points and:

Verdict - Chelsea will finish in 2nd

Highest prediction: 1st / Lowest prediction: 3rd

2013/14 Premier League final table predictions

Alan Dawson: 1st - Home form will be as crucial as ever this coming season, and the self-restyled Happy One never lost at home when Blues boss during his first run at the club. His record against other league managers is also formidable. Chelsea heading back to the top.

Callum Farrell: 1st - Chelsea possess the strongest midfield in England at the moment. A return to the previous era under the Portuguese manager is imminent.

Jenny Leigh: 1st - Their squad has the most strength and depth, and they’ve still got a core spine of the old guard. I wouldn’t be surprised if they almost went unbeaten.

Gareth McKnight: 1st - With Jose Mourinho’s return to Chelsea, the Blues will be the team to beat. They have arguably the strongest squad, and will most likely bring in another striker before the window closes.

Graham Morris: 1st - Tough one this, just fancy Mourinho might be able to rouse the old guard for one last hurrah and motivate the likes of Hazard and Mata on to greater heights.

Mathew Nash: 1st - Chelsea champions again - yes I think so. Jose Mourinho back at the helm should steady the ship and of all the managerial appointments this summer his is the best.

Key player: Eden Hazard

Ian Bolland: 2nd - The squad has been strengthened well since last term’s ‘transitional’ season. Expect the returning Mourinho to build on the third place of last season.

Dan Coombs: 2nd - Chelsea will be battling for the title until the death, and in Mourinho they have a manager who knows what it takes. Expect a trophy, but they remain a top class striker light of winning the league.

Lewis Doe: 2nd - Expect Chelsea to be the pace setters up alongside Manchester City. Jose Mourinho is another great tactician, and he has the ability to inspire his younger team. Chelsea have superb attacking options and if they add to their defence, they will be very difficult to beat.

Vic Daniels: 2nd - No magic Prem return for Jose, as the players are unable to sustain the challenge much past Christmas. By this time next year there will be a major squad overhaul, with Cole, Lampard, Terry and Torres all gone.

Nick Harris: 2nd - Jose Mourinho will be desperate to win the title in his first season back, but although Chelsea have plenty of quality in their team, they lack a commanding defensive midfielder and a top class striker, which could scupper their title chances.

Jamie Allen: 3rd - A good start to the season, but Chelsea will fall away after Christmas. Mourinho can’t work his magic this time. Maybe a year too early.

Vincent Ralph: 3rd - The arrival of Jose Mourinho is a catalyst every bit as powerful as a world-class signing, but they are still lacking a quality striker. Expect Romelu Lukaku to have another outstanding campaign, although doubts remain over his fellow frontmen. Andre Schurrle and Marco van Ginkel are canny signings, but Wayne Rooney would be a title-winning one…which is exactly why United surely won’t allow it.
