As Gareth Bale’s transfer saga continues, Barcelona were yesterday linked with a move for a Spurs player of their own – Jan Vertonghen.
Silly season had officially reached a new level of absurdity, although Tottenham are now reported to have dismissed those reports out of hand.
They came as the Spanish champions continue their pursuit of a new centre-back, having missed out on Thiago Silva and with Chelsea holding firm over David Luiz.
But the Mirror says Spurs have rubbished the claims that they have received a bid for their Belgian defender and insist he is going nowhere.
One man almost certain to leave is Tom Huddlestone, with the latest reports suggesting Hull City are confident of beating Sunderland to sign the midfielder.
With Andre Villas-Boas’s midfield taking a new and exciting shape, there appears to be no place for the 26-year-old in his first-team plans.
And it seems the manager hasn’t finished buying midfielders just yet, with reports linking him with a swoop for Roma’s Miralem Pjanic.
The 23-year-old has long been linked with a move to White Hart Lane, and the Mirror now claims Spurs are readying their move, despite the Italian club’s desire to keep him.
Tottenham’s director of football Franco Baldini has reportedly made contact with his former club in the hope of agreeing a deal for the exciting young player.
And finally, the latest Bale news:
Real Madrid still want him…Tottenham are asking for an amount they are seemingly unwilling to pay…talks continue.
