A round up of the latest news stories and transfer rumours about Liverpool.
Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has been arrested and will appear in court, accused of an alleged assault. The teenager spent Thursday night in a police cell following the incident, appearing in court earlier today to hear the charge.
In more positive news for the club, Valencia defender Aly Cissokho says he has agreed personal terms with Liverpool ahead of a planned move.
“Liverpool have made me an offer and it is true I have reached an agreement with them. It is now up to the clubs to agree terms. I expect to know more later this week,” the Frenchman told Le Sport 10.
Meanwhile, Pepe Reina has encouraged his current team Napoli to go after Liverpool centre back Martin Skrtel. Reina is on loan at the Serie A side for the coming season and has praised Skrtel’s quality as a defender, encouraging Napoli to make a move for him before the start of the season.
As far as the Luis Suarez saga is concerned, former Liverpool star John Barnes has launched an astonishing attack on modern fans, saying he can’t understand why so many people are surprised at the striker’s desire to leave.
“Why are you so surprised? This situation has been going on for years. I said when Torres signed, ‘don’t fall in love with him because if he decides he’s going to go, don’t be surprised’. And I said the same about Suarez,” Barnes told TalkSport.
Former Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow says it’s the fault of Suarez’s agent that he finds himself in this situation. Suarez believed he had a release clause in his contract relating to £40 million bids from Champions League teams and Purslow has suggested Suarez’s agent should have made it clear that wasn’t the case.
Suarez now looks set to stay at Anfield beyond the summer after the club’s owner John Henry ruled out selling the striker. The American suggested it would be ludicrous to sell Suarez to another Premier League side, especially when Liverpool are striving to get into Europe.
Jay Spearing has completed a move to Championship side Bolton Wanderers. Spearing spent time on loan with the club last season and has secured a permanent move after rejecting the chance to join Blackburn Rovers earlier in the transfer window. He’s signed a four-year deal with the club.
In another Championship related story, Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp has admitted he is interested in signing Oussama Assaidi. The winger looks certain to leave Anfield after failing to force his way into Brendan Rodgers’ first team plans last season.
Finally, turning away from the transfer market and back to the football, new signing Simon Mignolet says he is relishing the chance to embrace the pressure of playing for Liverpool. The former Sunderland goalkeeper will start the season as the club’s number one following Reina’s loan move to Napoli.
