It’s the race that nobody wants to win, but as soon as the Premier League gets underway the sack race is on.
Early indications in the betting market suggests that Alan Pardew is going to have a rough time of things at Newcastle United, with events off the field thought likely to impact the players on the pitch.
Interestingly, every bookie who has a market on the first manager to leave a Premier league club this coming season makes Pardew favourite as the first to go, with his best price at 3/1.
With the arrival of new investors at Fulham, Martin Jol features prominently in the Premier League sack race betting odds. Will Jol live up to the new owners’ expectations ? Or will there be patience from the man who seemed to give Jol his backing after taking over from Mohammed Al Fayed ?
Shahid Khan said shortly after taking over from Al Fayed: 'Martin has got a great reputation. At the moment (his job is safe), absolutely. We want to support him'. 8/1, however, indicates Jol may have a brief tenure under the new ownership.
Third favourite for the chop is Paulo Di Canio over at Sunderland. 9/1 says that bookmakers and punters feel that he will be unable get the best out of his new signings, and that his managerial style could negatively impact performance on the pitch.
Who do you think will be the first Premier League manager to be sacked ?
