There will be several strikers looking to get off to a good start and be the first to take home the first match ball of the season
Who will score the Premier League’s first hat-trick of the season? Will it be a player established in his side already or will one of the new boys make the best possible start whilst donning their club’s shirt for the first time? Of course a lot can depend on the opposition they are facing, but here is a look at a few players:
Daniel Sturridge: If Sturridge’s recovery from injury is on track and is fully fit to the start the season, then in Luis Suarez’s absence he is undoubtedly the man who Liverpool will look towards to score the goals to get their season off to a flyer as they kick off the season against Stoke. And if he manages to continue in the same kind of form as he was in towards the end of last season then a match ball may not be too far away.
Nicolas Anelka: A proven goalscorer in the Premier League with his time at Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Bolton and Chelsea. Now with Steve Clark at West Brom, the experienced frontman will be looked upon to show the form that has made him such a success in the Premier League.
Wilfried Bony: He signed for a club record £12million fee and has already found the net twice in Swansea’s Europa League victory over Malmo at the Liberty Stadium, and looks set to form a formidable looking partnership alongside Michu.
Robin Van Persie: Last season’s top scorer is no stranger to picking up the odd match ball here and there, though Man United’s difficult start could prevent him from doing that, but he is good enough to fire in a trio against any of the Premier League’s opposition.
Sergio Aguero: Has been impressive from the first minute he took to the field in a Manchester City shirt and is always a threat in front of goal, and with promoted side Cardiff early on, you’d think there could be an opportunity for his class in front of goal to prevail.
Romelu Lukaku: He had a terrific season at West Brom last season, and with newly-promoted Hull City the first on their fixture, a Lukaku in the form of last season would certainly fancy his chances in front of goal.
Who do you think will score the first Premier League hat-trick of the season?
