Frank Lampard has said he was pleased to play 45 minutes in Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Real Madrid last night, and after reporting no problems with his Achilles injury after the game, the midfielder believes he can get back to full fitness over the next week.
A Cristiano Ronaldo brace was decisive in the friendly, which was the final of the International Champions Cup, with Ramires scoring Chelsea’s only goal. The loss was Chelsea’s first of pre-season, ending a run of five straight victories.
Wayne Rooney is edging closer to a move to Chelsea after apparently asking to train with the reserves at Manchester United. David Moyes has so far insisted that Rooney will not be sold, but the striker is keen to push through a move to Chelsea, who have already had two bids for the 27-year-old rejected.
Former Manchester United player Gary Neville has said that Rooney can only be sold if Moyes is able to bring in a superstar like Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo to replace him. United have had to give up on their pursuit of Cesc Fabregas after the midfielder said he would not leave Barcelona this summer in a press conference.
Jose Mourinho has said that David Luiz is a key part of his plans for Chelsea next season, dismissing speculation that the defender will move to Barcelona. The Spanish side made a bid for the Brazilian earlier this week after missing out on PSG’s Thiago Silva, but Mourinho wants Luiz to build on his potential at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are one of several clubs monitoring 17-year-old Victor Andrade, who has been labelled the new Neymar after breaking into the Santos side. Andrade has previously said he is keen to move to Europe, and could be available this summer as he has yet to commit his future to Santos.
