If Liverpool were to sell Luis Suarez, it is paramount Liverpool replace him with a top striker. However, with no European football to offer, who can the reds realistically target?
Diego Costa – Liverpool recently put in a bid in excess of £20million for the Atletico Madrid front man, though the 24-year-old striker has been quoted as saying he is happy at the club, and the club have also been reported as saying the striker is not for sale.
Alessandro Matri - The Juventus striker has been linked both Liverpool and Merseyside neighbours Everton. If Liverpool were to land Matri to replace Suarez he would have to step up his game in the English league to fill the Uruguayan’s boots and improve on a scoring record of a goal more than ever other game.
Pedro – It is quite hard to believe that Liverpool have been linked with Pedro this summer, but they have since the arrival of Neymar at Barcelona. However, it will be a significant step down for the Barcelona front man if he were to arrive at Anfield, but he would be guaranteed first team football, and would provide Liverpool with goals.
Theo Walcott – Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler said on Twitter that if Arsenal were serious about capturing Luis Suarez’s signature then they should offer Walcott as a makeweight in the deal. Though he is a very different player and has recently been operating out wide for the Gunners, he has made no secret of playing through the middle, a chance he might well get if he were to head to Anfield.
Luis Muriel – The 22-year-old is probably the most realistic target out of all of them, and since FSG took ownership of the club, the one that looks more like a ‘Liverpool signing,’ with the Daily Express reporting interest in the Colombian. Though he has a couple of spells on loan at other clubs, his scoring record for a player of his age is not to be sniffed at with Udinese, with 12 goals from 22 appearances.
