Speaking to Sky Sports News, Purslow pointed out that Liverpool needed to regain Champions League football in order to move to the next stage in the development of the club. He said that, as things stand, Arsenal were favourites for 4th slot, with Liverpool probably favourites for 5th.
To sell Suarez to Arsenal, Purslow believes, would result in a 60 goal swing in Arsenal's favour - Suarez scored 23 Premier League goals last season, with 8 assists. And Purslow clearly believes that this may be a bridge too far for Liverpool to make up - not matter who they ultimately bring in as a replacement.
This is Anfield is reporting The Telegraph has claimed in its early Friday edition that Liverpool owner John Henry has told club CEO Ivan Gazidis that Suarez will most definitely not be Arsenal-bound.
Henry is quoted as saying: 'We are not going to sell Luis. It’s a football reason. It’s not finances. At this point, so late in window, with everyone who’s already moved or isn’t moving, we do not have time to replace him.
'So for football reasons we can’t – and especially to Arsenal. We’ve made that clear. I have said to Ivan Gazidis in a personal conversation that we will not sell to Arsenal'.
