Andrei Arshavin's tale at Arsenal sadly was not one with a happy ending, and whether you put his failed potential down to his work ethic or being played out of position, it's a shame all round it did not work out.
For on his day he is a magical player, capable of genius as he famously showed soon after signing against Liverpool, and momentously against Barcelona.
He spent last season knocking about in the shadows at the Emirates before being released, rejoining Zenit St Petersburg.
He scored on his return for the club - from who he signed and also played at on loan, and he has continued his bright start by netting in the Champions League.
Zenit defeated FC Nordsjaelland of Denmark 5-0 in their Champions League qualifier first leg, with Arshavin scoring the fourth.
Fortunately he cannot come back to haunt Arsenal in the next round of qualifiers, for if Zenit get through as appears certain now, they will be one of the seeded teams and thus cannot meet the Gunners.
Just watch the little man's face as he celebrates his goal.
Are you happy to see him enjoying his football again?
