Barcelona have made a bid for Chelsea defender David Luiz, with the Brazilian now their main target in the hunt for a new centre-back. Chelsea have said throughout the window that they will not consider selling Luiz, but with Barcelona’s bid reportedly in the region of £35million, their resolve to keep the 26-year-old will be sorely tested.
"I don't remember the last time I had four weeks off in a summer, so it was great and now I am fully prepared for the season, which should be a good one for all of us," Torres said.
"Everyone is giving everything to be in the manager's plans. From the first day until now training has been great, high intensity, very fun, and so you are working hard, but using the ball in every exercise, so it's very good.”
Chelsea youngster Cristian Cuevas has been sent out on loan to Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem. The 18-year-old joined Chelsea this summer, but was not going to feature in their senior squad and has been sent to Vitesse, who have taken several Blues players on loan in recent years, to gain first-team experience.
Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Paco Buyo has said that Jose Mourinho’s involvement in tonight’s match between Chelsea and the Spanish club will “add spice” to the friendly. Chelsea play Real Madrid in the final of the International Champions Cup in Miami, with Mourinho enjoying a fine pre-season with the Blues after leaving Madrid this summer.
Chelsea and Arsenal are set to miss out on Bayern Munich midfielder Luis Gustavo, with Wolfsburg reportedly frontrunners for the Brazilian. Gustavo has been made available by Bayern after they signed Thiago Alcantara, and is expected to move in order to ensure he plays enough first team football ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
