David Amoo starred as Carlisle United pulled off a shock in the League Cup.
Three years ago David Amoo had just made his debut in the Europa League for Liverpool, in a qualifying match in Macedonia against FK Rabotnicki.
The striker failed to make a further breakthrough at the club, and ended up being loaned to Hull, Bury and MK Dons before his contract expired last summer.
He signed with Preston but after failing to score a league goal, netting just one in an early FA Cup round, his contract was cancelled by mutual consent in January and he ended up at Tranmere.
After that deal expired, Amoo signed this summer with Carlisle, keen to turn his fortunes around, and is now celebrating one of the highs of his career.
And Amoo was central to Carlisle pulling off an upset, scoring twice in a 3-3 draw, including a crucial injury time equaliser - which they went onto win via a penalty shootout, pouring more misery on the hapless Blackburn.
He certainly seems to be on the right track after a less than auspicious start as described by coach Greg Abbott:
"Once he gets in the box, he’s got good feet – better feet than I thought. I thought he had his boots on the wrong feet when he first came into training but now he seems to have organised that.”
The game featured Amoo's first goals for the club, and he will hope the first of many, as he strives to show he was deserving of his two year deal and show just why he was once rated highly by none other than Rafa Benitez.
What do you remember of Amoo? Will he ever be a success?
