Arsenal latest: Including Gustavo unlikely and Suarez 'standby'

Emirates Inside

News and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.

A bid for Luis Suarez has been put ‘on standby’ by Arsene Wenger. It comes the day after the Uruguayan striker made his intentions to leave the club this summer clear. The player has told national newspapers that he wants to play in the Champions League and claims the club promised him that opportunity last year - when he signed his new deal at Anfield.

Wenger stated:

"It is nothing to do with us. We have been told that the player wants to leave Liverpool and that is why we have acted.’’

The ’Arabian Messi’ will not be going on trial with The Gunners. Omar Abdulrahman was being tipped to join up with the club this summer so they could take a closer look at his talents before making a move for him.

But his club Al-Ain’s chairman has informed potential suitors that he is not available for trials and that they would only be interested in seeing him leave permanently.

Arsenal’s apparent interest in Julio Cesar is no more - after the Brazilian looked to seal a switch back to Italy with Fiorentina. In recent weeks it has become evident that Wenger is ready to give Wojciech Szczesny another season to prove his worth as the long-term goalkeeping option.

He reportedly joins on a two-year deal for a fee of around £2.5 million.

Two of Arsenal’s academy hopefuls have been speaking about their hopes for the future.

Thomas Eisfeld and Kristoffer Olsson were both in the Asian tour party and considered two of the top talents in the clubs youth ranks.

Eisfeld said going on tour has helped give him confidence meanwhile Olsson says he plans to get into the Carling Cup team this season.

Finally, and it seems any lingering interest Arsenal had in Brazilian midfielder Luiz Gustavo will be futile now - as he began negotiations with VfL Wolfsburg over a move from Bayern Munich.
