Chelsea latest: Including Mata and Luiz

A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.

Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata has said he is very happy at Stamford Bridge, and revealed that he was never worried about speculation linking him with a move this summer because he had been assured by Jose Mourinho of his importance to the side.

"I was relaxed about the speculation because I spoke to the club and the manager, who said I was important to them. That was good to hear,” he said.

“It's very good, everyone wants to feel important for the club, I feel it, I'm very happy and enjoying training with the new manager, and I hope I can improve on the last two seasons."

David Luiz will miss Chelsea’s friendly against Real Madrid tomorrow after sitting out of the team’s training session today. Luiz has been linked with a move to Barcelona this summer, but Mourinho has said that the Brazilian defender will not be sold.

Former Chelsea and Manchester United player Ray Wilkins has said that Wayne Rooney would be taking a step down if he moved to the Blues this summer. Wilkins, who also coached at Chelsea, believes that there is no bigger side than Manchester United, and no better place for Rooney to win things.

Chelsea have already had two bids turned down for the striker, but they are reportedly still confident that Rooney will join them this summer. Manchester United have said that Rooney is not for sale, and rejected a second bid of around £30million at the weekend, but the 27-year-old is keen to leave Old Trafford.

Summer signing Andre Schurrle has admitted he used to wear a Frank Lampard Chelsea shirt when he was growing up, and that the England midfielder, along with another former Blues player Michael Ballack, were his idols.

Chelsea youngster Wallace is set to join Inter on loan for next season, and his compatriot Lucas Piazon is also likely to leave Stamford Bridge shortly, with Vitesse Arnhem his most likely destination for a loan spell. Chelsea have a good relationship with the Dutch club, and have sent several players on loan there in recent seasons.

On HITC today we look at why Barcelona’s attempts to sign David Luiz will fail, and ask if Wayne Rooney handing in a transfer request would help Chelsea’s attempts to sign him.
