Cristiano Ronaldo's expected deal at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu will make him the second handsomest wage earner in the sport…
Manchester United target Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly close to a new Real Madrid deal that will see him earn £15m every season for the next five years, according to Marca, whose front-page is currently decorated with various articles relating to the Portuguese trickster's latest financial package on offer.
'I'm very happy here and now I'm only looking to train and prepare well,' said Ronaldo to journalists at UCLA recently in news that may extinguish any hope United boss David Moyes may have had on luring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.
While statistical and on-pitch comparisons are oft made between the two best active footballers in the world, Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, the former could now beat his adversary in the remuneration rates as, if the contract is signed off, Cristiano will receive well over an extra million ducats per season.
Below are the top ten earners in world football, based purely on contract (and not from sponsorship). The first Premier League entrant makes his way in at number seven.
|Player/club||Contract value (per season)|
|Samuel Eto'o/ Anzhi||£17.5m|
|Cristiano Ronaldo/ Real Madrid||£15m*|
|Lionel Messi/ Barcelona||£13.75m|
|Zlatan Ibrahimovic/ PSG||£12.5m|
|Radamel Falcao/ Monaco||£12m|
|Wayne Rooney/ Manchester United||£11.9m|
|Sergio Aguero/ Manchester City||£11.5m|
|Yaya Toure/ Manchester City||£11.25m|
