A round up of the latest news stories and transfer rumours connected to Liverpool.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has compared striker Luis Suarez to the highly sought after Gareth Bale. Rodgers points out that Bale and Suarez were neck and neck for best Premier League player last season, which means if Bale is sold to Real Madrid for nine figures, Suarez justifies an equally high price tag.
Rodgers has gone on to criticise Arsenal for the way they have gone about their pursuit of the striker, suggesting the Gunners have no class trying to activate a clause in Suarez’s contract with their last bid.
“I was surprised at the bid. I always associated them as a club with class. There may be a game there, but we will just move on and do our own work,” said Rodgers.
In transfer news not to do with Luis Suarez, Everton are being linked with a move for long term Liverpool target Toby Alderweireld. Liverpool are unlikely to sign the defender from Ajax having had the chance to do so, which means their local rivals could poach the player on a long term deal.
However, that blow can be countered with the news that Liverpool are close to signing Diego Capel from Sporting Lisbon. Liverpool are reportedly offering £6 million for the wide man, with Sporting Lisbon having already turned down bids of £2 million and £3 million from French club Marseille.
Liverpool have fresh hope if they want to go after highly sought after Brazilian star Bernard, who has been quite widely linked with Arsenal. Current coach of Bernard’s current side Atletico Mineiro has said he can’t see the youngster staying with the Telegraph suggesting last week Liverpool had made their interest official.
In more good news for the club, they are also being linked with a loan move for Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo. The 19-year-old centre back could make the move to Anfield as a squad player, completing Rodgers’ summer signings if Omeruo follows the addition of Capel to the squad.
Liverpool may also take a gamble on another youngster, 17-year-old Dele Alli of League One side MK Dons. Alli is also being tracked by Arsenal, creating a reputation for himself as a power house midfielder exploiting his immense size and power at over six feet two inches tall in the middle of the pitch.
Another rumour which seems to have resurfaced relates to Hellas Verona midfielder Jorginho. Fiorentina have been linked with the 21-year-old who could be tempted to stay in Italy rather than take a risk by moving to the Premier League with Liverpool or another interested party, Tottenham Hotspur.
Bolton Wanderers remain keen to re-sign Liverpool’s Jay Spearing on a permanent deal. Spearing spent time on loan with the Championship club last season and has already turned down the chance to move to Blackburn, apparently in the hope of getting a move back to Bolton.
