If Gareth Bale does move to Real Madrid, his agent Jonathan Barnett will have had a big part to play, one way or another.
Barnett is seen as the manipulator behind the scenes pushing the deal through, speaking to the Spanish media and fuelling the potential switch.
He is claimed to have been at it again, reportedly telling Spanish newspaper AS that his client is unhappy with his manager's 'not for sale' stance regarding him.
"Bale is very upset with Villas-Boas for what he said in Monaco [that the player is going nowhere] and is considering not even going to training this week because right now he is very upset.”
It's quite a threat. Bale has been a model professional in public, save for pledging his commitment to Spurs, and it was not anticipated he would consider going on strike to force the move, whichever the official situation regarding his current injury.
But there is a little mystery to the quotes, also run by the Evening Standard.
The Standard contacted Barnett directly and asked for a comment, to which they added: "Barnett denied speaking to the Spanish paper. However, he refused to guarantee that Bale will be at the training ground tomorrow."
So somebody is being disingenuous, either the Spanish press, or Barnett. But it sounds like the agent is playing games in his refusal to confirm Bale's status for tomorrow.
If he turns up, expect Sky Sports to make a 'man turns up for work' breaking news yellow ticker announcement. But such is the mystery which has been created, everybody will surely be watching on closely anyway.
What do you think of the situation?
