News and gossip from this weekend at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are reportedly set to make an improved bid for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. The clubs first bid for the England international was rebuffed by The Red Devils but it was reported earlier today that the player is ready to hand in a transfer request this week.
A move for the player is said to be in the region of £40 million.
Romelu Lukaku however is ready to lead the line for the club this season - after his excellent loan spell at West Bromwich Albion last term.
"It feels good. I knew that, if I performed well, people would make a lot of requests for me. But I’m a Chelsea player and happy to be here. It’s up to me. If I do well, I will play. I have always felt like a Chelsea player, even at West Brom."
Jose Mourinho has revealed he turned down the England job in 2007. He was approached by the FA after Steve McClaren was sacked as gaffer after the infamous wally with the brolly game against Croatia.
He stated he did not take the role as he could not have felt fulfilled by only playing a handful of games in a season.
Chelsea have slapped a £45 million price-tag on their Brazilian defender David Luiz. The player has been linked with Barcelona recently - and rumours have suggested he is keen on the switch to Catalonia.
It is believed that Barca would not be able to make up the cash to meet that valuation.
Chelsea defeated Inter Milan in a pre-season friendly this weekend. Goals from Oscar and Eden Hazard were enough to earn the victory for Jose Mourinho’s men - in a game marred by Hugo Campagnaro’s horror tackle on John Terry.
They face AC Milan tonight in the semi-final of the International Champions Cup.
