The Daily Star follows up yesterday’s “world exclusive” with more Gareth Bale news, now claiming the Welshman is just one half of a spectacular double swoop that will see Luis Suarez join him at the Bernabeu.
Bale did not travel with his Spurs teammates for today’s match against Monaco, and the story claims Real Madrid are confident a deal can be done to secure Bale by Tuesday; before they then set their sights on the Liverpool frontman.
For his part Bale has remained silent, publicly at least, and arrived at White Hart Lane yesterday expecting to travel to the principality. However in light of the speculation, the Daily Express claims the club were convinced to leave him in England.
The exact nature of the Spanish side’s offer remains something of a mystery, with different figures and potential swaps mentioned in recent days. But two names keep coming up – those of Fabio Coentrao and Alvaro Morata.
While Carlo Ancelotti is said to be reluctant to allow the latter to leave, talk is now of a buy-back clause being inserted into any potential deal for the young striker.
Numerous reports from America in recent hours suggest Clint Dempsey is on his way to the Seattle Sounders.
The former Fulham man is expected to complete his return to MLS in the next few days.
And he may not be the last departure, with Jermain Defoe linked with a reunion with Harry Redknapp at Queens Park Rangers.
“I am trying to bring players in who will blow people’s minds,” Redknapp said as he prepared for the start of the Championship campaign.
Despite an impressive pre-season, Defoe is set to find himself down the pecking order following the arrival of Roberto Soldado…and possibly Morata.
However Andre Villas-Boas would surely need to bring in another proven goal-scorer before sanctioning a move for the England forward.
