Manchester City latest: United nearly-man linked; former boss wants winger

Ljajic

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Manchester City have been linked with a move for Fiorentina midfielder Adem Ljajic, whose transfer to Manchester United fell through back in 2009.

The 21-year-old has reportedly attracted interest from both City and AC Milan. And while he is believed to be happy at his current club, a delay in signing a contract extension has left his future unclear.

It was widely reported last month that Ljajic was set to agree a move to Milan for next summer, and yet that has so far failed to materialise, leaving Manuel Pellegrini with an opportunity to sign one of Serie A’s most exciting young players.

Speaking about Ljajic’s future, Fiorentina’s sporting director Danile Prade said, “There will be an important meeting between his agent and our president, but our club wants only motivated people who are willing to stay at Fiorentina.

“We have to evaluate this situation day by day.”

Ljajic’s former teammate Stevan Jovetic has revealed that he turned down Juventus in order to move to the Etihad.

Yes, Juventus did want me,” he said. “They talked with my agent. Actually they talked a lot more with him than with me.”

Having previously revealed that he chose City because they showed they wanted him the most, that lack of personal contact from the Italian champions may have been one of the things that pushed him towards the Blues.

And finally, yet another club has reportedly entered the race for Scott Sinclair. The winger is almost certain to leave this summer, and City are said to be open to a move should they recoup somewhere close to the £8million they paid for him last summer.

Stoke City are the latest side to be linked with the former Swansea player, although much of the interest appears to be in a loan deal rather than a permanent signing.
