Arsenal fan Amit Acharya writes on why despite a lack of success in the transfer market, fans should not worry just yet.
If you are to believe the many things stated in the media then Arsenal are a team in crisis. This is something which I find rather amusing for many reasons.
If I were to use TalkSport as an example they seem to mention the Arsenal and Suarez situation very differently to Manchester United’s pursuit of Fabregas. Darren Gough boldly stating that Arsenal are the only team in the top six who haven’t been able to get their top targets.
I have an issue with the reporting of the so called Higuain deal, many journalists such as Graham Hunter stated that Arsenal did have an agreement with the player and his club but were screwed over by Real Madrid.
The majority of the articles which I had read stated that Arsenal just did not want to bid for the player. These were written by the same people who originally stated that his medical at Arsenal was imminent. It is hard to believe that Arsenal just were not bothered about him.
Over the last few years a stick to beat Arsenal with is that they sell their best players every season. The fact that they have not sold any of the bigger names should be a good sign. It is also a fact that they have tried to add names to the squad.
The Sun’s reporter Shaun Custis mentioned about signing expensive players but he seems to have forgotten expensive flops such as Torres, Veron and Shevchenko. Could it work out that Sanogo may be better for Arsenal than Suarez?
Comparing Arsenal to the other top sides it seems that only Manchester City has added lots of players. Tottenham are having an interesting summer, with Paulinho being the big signing - possibly Soldado too, and Bale potentially leaving. If Bale were to leave then would two or three further signings fill his gap?
Arsenal are always said to have a weak squad, but I feel that this team is very underrated. The main problem for Wenger over the last seven years has been the defence, but it went pretty unnoticed that Arsenal conceded the second least amount of goals last season.
Steve Bould has now had a whole season with them and extra time to gel them even more. Looking at the last ten games of last season Arsenal probably were the best defensive team in the league.
Other positives to be taken are that last season’s new signings had a great season last year, if Wenger’s second season theory works on them they will be amazing.
Let’s not forget some of the younger players in the squad who are a year older. What I am trying to say is that the transfer window still has a month left and all the top teams will make their moves.
I do not believe that Arsenal are just sitting there for days upon days deciding whether to increase a Suarez bid. They will have a plan B. The media are using speculation to make stories and when these deals do not happen they use the same speculation to beat a team with. In my opinion Arsenal are only one or two players short of challenging but only time will tell of what will happen.
