Considering how many of the top six sides in the Premier League have been left chasing their tails in an attempt to sign a new striker this summer, Norwich City can be very happy with their moves for Gary Hooper and Ricky Van Wolfswinkel, as they have brought two relatively young players with fine goal-scoring records with very little fuss.
Both are slight gambles, as they come from leagues not considered in the top bracket of European football, Van Wolfswinkel from Portugal and Hooper from Scotland, but considering they have both scored over 20 goals in each of the past three seasons it is clear they are natural strikers with every chance of succeeding in the Premier League.
The question now, purely for the purposes of amusement/fantasy football team selection, is which of them will score the most goals next season?
It will depend on team selection and injuries, but assuming they are both given a fair crack of the whip by Chris Hughton, which will be more prolific?
Hooper has the stats on his side, with the former Celtic player, scoring 132 times in the past five seasons, three spent with the Scottish club and two with Scunthorpe United in League One and the Championship.
However Van Wolfswinkel perhaps has the bigger reputation, and the 45 goals in 87 games over two seasons at Sporting Lisbon put to bed any concerns that his goal-scoring ability was confined to the Dutch Eredivisie.
The Dutch forward is also a superb penalty taker, which might count in his favour if he is handed the duties at Carrow Road.
Of course both players could flop, or another new addition could come in and steal their thunder, but at the moment Hooper and Van Wolfswinkel look likely to start plenty of matches together next season, and which of them proves the better buy will be interesting.
Norwich fans, which of your new strikers are you most excited about, and who will score the most?
