Liverpool transfer news: Ajax duo still available, Schalke - no bid for Papadopoulos

A round up of the latest transfer stories to do with Liverpool.

Liverpool remain in the hunt to sign Ajax duo Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen according to Dutch news source De Telegraaf.

Both players have reportedly rejected several chances to sign for clubs in Russia on big money deals, which means they’re still available if Brendan Rodgers wants to make a move.

The Liverpool gaffer has said he’s still looking to add attacking and defensive players to his squad before the start of the new season.

German side FC Schalke have said they have received no bids for central defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

The Greek star was thought to be the centre of a £13 million offer from Liverpool, with several sources suggesting a deal was close.

“There is no truth in those rumours. There is no offer put up for the services of Kyriakos Papadopoulos. Not from Liverpool FC or any other club,” said Schalke general manager Horst Heldt.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has urged Luis Suarez to stay loyal to Liverpool.

Gerrard says the only way that the club can move forward and get into the bracket of the top four teams in the country, is to add players but more importantly, keep Suarez.

“This club needs to make one or two big signings if we are to compete for the top four - and keep Suarez. Alongside Gareth Bale, Luis is the third best player in the world after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo,” said Gerrard.
