Former Arsenal youngster Carlos Vela says he is very keen to avoid Arsenal in the upcoming Champions League qualifying draw. Vela is a key player for Real Sociedad after moving there last summer, helping the club finish fourth in La Liga. The draw will be made next week.
He said: "This is my home now, I don't want to face Arsenal, any other tie would be nice. I don't want it to become too complicated."
Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has delivered a hands off warning to Arsenal, stating: "He continues to work hard and train hard for Liverpool. That will continue and I'll expect him to be here at the start of the season."
"It's (selling him) not something we're interested in and, as our fans would expect, we rejected both. The player is not available for sale - that's where we are and that's where we'll stay
"I wish I had £1 for everyone that's stopped me in the street saying 'make sure Luis stays'. That's what we're doing."
He added: "I don't think his demeanour's changed - he's been a professional throughout. It's just business as usual."
Arsene Wenger is said to be confident his young Arsenal squad will be better next season, and fans can expect improved results regardless of whether new signings arrive or not.
He said: "These players can have a special bond and they are on the way upwards, they are not over the hill. They will be better next year and that is why I am confident we will be stronger next season.
"We had a fantastic end to the season because we won eight of our last 10 (league) games.We have had a good pre-season and for the first time in recent seasons we have not sold any player (we have wanted to keep)."
In off-field news, former Arsenal defender Kenny Sansom has been revealed to be homeless and struggling with alcohol addiction. Arsenal are said to have offered to help him through his troubles.
