A round up of the latest transfer stories connected to Liverpool.
Liverpool have been told they will have to come up with a fee of £35 million to sign FC Porto star Jackson Martinez.
Martinez has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur thought to be the two main interested parties.
“The only chance of a move happening, in my opinion, is if the Azzurri pay the €40m (£35m) rescission fee clause which is in his contract. Otherwise he won’t move,” his agent Manuel Manzo told Sky Sport Italia.
Liverpool are moving closer to securing the signing of Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos for £13 million.
News broke at the start of the week that Liverpool were considering revitalising their interest in the FC Schalke star.
Some reports have suggested that current Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel will be sent on loan to Napoli, making way for Papadopoulos in the current squad.
Former Liverpool player Mark Lawrenson has urged the club to go after a ‘couple of £25 million’ players if they want to break the top four this season.
Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he is still looking to make an attacking and defensive signing for his side ahead of the new season.
“They are striving for fourth place to get those revenues increased by Champions League football, but they might need to buy a couple of £25m players to do that – money they might not necessarily want to spend given it’s no guarantee of a top-four finish,” he told the Liverpool Daily Post.
