'I like the way that Liverpool have gone about things this closed season. They used the Carroll and Shelvey money to bring in four players who will be important squad /1st team members this season. They could, like so many other clubs, have spent the money on just one player, who may possibly pick up an injury, or who might struggle to make his mark in the Premier League.
To date, we have spent none of the transfer budget that FSG indicated is available this summer (between £25m - £45m), so we still have plenty to play with. And players like Pepe and Škrtel are on too high a wage not to be automatic first choices, so looking to send them out on loan for the season makes perfect business sense.
I believe the club knows exactly who wants for the CB and AM positions, but while the Suarez saga (will he stay, or will he go), it makes sense to hold fire and see what develops.
It will be August tomorrow, the deals will start to roll for all clubs and we'll have a better idea how we stand.
Too many Liverpool fans want things done yesterday, and seem to believe that every player we are linked with are real targets. The time to judge the club's transfer dealings is when the window shuts. Till then, take a chill pill and take pride in four pre-season clean sheets and victories, and a team growing in confidence.
