The defending Super Bowl champions Baltimore Ravens are suffering another tough loss as TE Dennis Pitta is out for the season with a hip injury.
First Ray Lewis and Matt Birk retired, then the departures; Paul Kruger is with the Browns, Anquan Boldin is catching passes in San Francisco, Ed Reed intercepting passes in Houston and Dannell Ellerbe is with the Dolphins.
After the brilliant win over the San Francisco 49ers in this year’s Super Bowl the Baltimore Ravens had to face adversity. But it is still going on.
Dennis Pitta, the Ravens go-to tight end with almost 700 yards of catches in 2012, fractured and dislocated his hip on Saturday’s practice. On Sunday they confirmed, Pitta is out for the season.
The tight end collided with his teammate James Ihedigbo and went down according to the Ravens’ official website.
It seems that the Ravens are almost out of players and quaterback Joe Flacco without reliable weapons. Boldin and Pitta were his main targets in the end zone.
Torrey Smith on the outside and running back Ray Rice are still there. But Rice will be without his Pro Bowl fullback Vonta Leach and Smith has to prove that he is the playmaker on the outside.
The Ravens are still loaded with talent all over the field and they have shown before that they can play at a high level without their key players.
But the loss of Pitta could be the final straw.
Can the Ravens repeat? Will they even make the playoffs?
