Liverpool have maintained that the clause simply means they have to notify Suarez of the interest in him, while Arsenal hoped their bid, of £40million plus one pound, would be enough to force through a move.
Suarez is apparently valued by Liverpool at around the same price as Edinson Cavani, who went to PSG for £55million this summer, and Arsenal might face unexpected competition from Tottenham Hotspur, who have been linked with a move for the striker if they sell Gareth Bale for a world record fee.
Arsenal have reportedly made it clear that Olivier Giroud will not be leaving the club, after there was speculation Valencia were considering a loan bid for the forward to replace the apparently Spurs-bound Roberto Soldado.
Giroud, who is enjoying an excellent pre-season with Arsenal, is too important to the first team for the Gunners’ to allow him to leave on loan.
Arsenal are hoping to use Nicklas Bendtner as part of a deal for Malaga right-back Jesus Gamez, with the Gunners set to offer £1.5million plus the out of favour striker for the 28-year-old.
Bendtner has been close to several deals, including with Malaga, this summer, but there have been indications that his wages demands have stopped them going through.
Arsenal have raided the Spanish club for Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal in the past year, and want Gamez to compete with Bacaray Sagna and Carl Jenkinson for their right-back berth.
Marseille will not be selling Andre Ayew this summer according to their coach Elie Baup, despite some conflict with the forward over his preferred position.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool have all been linked with Ayew, who wants to play as a central striker rather than on the wing, but the Ligue 1 side will not entertain the notion of him leaving this transfer window.
