12pm Sports News: Featuring Bale, Soldado and Pietersen

A round up of the latest news stories from across the world of sport.

Zinedine Zidane has urged Tottenham Hotspur to let the Spanish club talk to Gareth Bale and has urged them not to deny the Welshman his dream move. Real Madrid have tabled a world record offer for Bale, with fresh reports suggesting Daniel Levy could hold out for a fee of £125 million.

Valencia striker Roberto Soldado is staying tight lipped over the possibility of joining Tottenham Hotspur. Valencia are thought to be holding out for their top end valuation of the player, £26 million, and Soldado has said he can’t shed any light on the latest developments in the possible deal.

England batsman Kevin Pietersen will have until tomorrow morning to prove his fitness for the third Ashes Test. The England star came through a fitness test yesterday on a calf problem as James Taylor waits in the wings, having scored a century for Sussex against Australia in the recent tour match.

Pakistan legend Wasim Akram says James Anderson is the best fast bowler of his era. Anderson needs just five more wickets to become the joint second highest wicket taker in Test cricket for England, as he prepares to face Australia in the third Ashes Test at his home ground, Old Trafford.

Heather Watson and Laura Robson have both won their first matches in the US hard court season. Watson defeated Alexandra Mueller in the first round of the Citi Open while Robson defeated Ayumi Morita in the Southern California Open. Both women are aiming to make a big impression at the US Open.
