Chelsea latest: Including Torres and Khedira

Torres V Arsenal

A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.

Chelsea have named a strong 25-man squad for their pre-season tour of American, with six players from the Confederations Cup joining their team-mates. Kevin De Bruyne has also been included in the squad to dismiss any concerns about the injury picked up in Asia, but there is no place for youngsters including Josh McEachran, Nathaniel Chalobah and Lucas Piazon, who are expected to go out on loan.

Fernando Torres is reportedly a target for Valencia, with the Spanish side looking at the striker as a replacement for Roberto Soldado, who is apparently close to finalising a move to Tottenham Hotspur. Valencia could offer as much as £25million for Torres, who has failed to hit his best form at Chelsea since his £50million move from Liverpool in January 2011.

Jose Mourinho is considering raiding his former club Real Madrid for midfielder Sami Khedira, who could be available for around £20million as the Spanish side look to raise funds for their pursuit of Gareth Bale. With John Obi Mikel linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, Mourinho could be in the market for a defensive midfielder.

Chelsea will not entertain any bids for David Luiz this summer, despite reported interest from both Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Barcelona are in the market for a centre half this summer, and having missed out on PSG’s Thiago Silva, they have apparently included Luiz on a shortlist of targets along with several other Premier League defenders.

At Bayern Pep Guardiola has ruled out a move for Luiz this summer, saying they already have enough defenders at the club.

Wayne Rooney is set for crunch talks with David Moyes about his future at Manchester United this week, and forward is set to try and push through a move to Chelsea this summer. Manchester United have so far insisted that Rooney will not be sold, and rejected Chelsea’s first offer of £20million for the striker.

On HITC today we look at the poll of Chelsea fans that suggests they want their side to pursue Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan, but also argue that Khedira is the perfect midfielder for the Blues. We also look at reports suggesting Didier Drogba could return to Chelsea after his playing career finishes.
