Transfer Talk: Featuring Nani, Verratti and Rooney

Nani

Manchester United, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Liverpool and West Brom all feature.

Monaco have confirmed their interest in signing winger Nani from Manchester United. The Portuguese star has been linked with several moves away from the club, most notably to the wealthy Ligue One team. Monaco have said there have been no talks but their interest in the player is real.

Manchester United have suffered another blow in the transfer market following the news that Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has extended his contract at the French club. The 20-year-old has been tipped in several places as the alternative to Cesc Fabregas should United fail in their attempt to sign the former Arsenal star.

Chelsea will hold off on a second bid for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, in the hope a bad reception from United fans will make signing the forward easier. United have already rejected one bid from the West London side and several reports have suggested they will bide their time over a second offer.

Newcastle United have pulled out of a deal to sign Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis. Newcastle were thought to be close to signing the Frenchman but the latest reports have suggested the club has withdrawn their interest after seeing a £7 million bid for the player rejected by the French giants.

West Brom have failed in an attempt to sign Napoli defender Federico Fernandez on loan. The Baggies were hoping to get the 24-year-old on a season long loan deal with a clause which would give them the option of signing him on a permanent basis this time next summer.

Pepe Reina says he is hurt by his Liverpool exit but is looking forward to the challenge of playing for Napoli. Reina says he feels hurt by the fact Liverpool agreed the loan deal with the Italian side without first telling the Spaniard, stating he didn’t want to leave Liverpool in such a manner, believing he deserved better.

Tottenham Hotspur have sent 21-year-old right back Adam Smith on loan to Championship team Derby County. Smith will spend the entire season on loan at the club and Derby boss Nigel Clough has admitted he’s a player that he, and the club, have been keeping an eye on for a long time.
