What would Tottenham fans prefer - Gareth Bale or €120 million?

Bale Battles V Madrid

With reports in Spain suggesting Real Madrid are ready to smash the transfer record for Gareth Bale we ask whether Spurs fans would be happy to sell at the right price.

According to Spanish source Diario As, reported on their website yesterday, Tottenham Hotspur had set a massive €120 million asking price on the head of their star player Gareth Bale. They also reported that if it was designed to put Real Madrid off the Welshman - it has failed.

It was suggested that Real Madrid were willing to find the funds to meet that quite insane asking price and that Spurs would then be struggling to do anything but accept the bid for the player.

Now I understand what Tottenham fans are currently thinking about reports from Spain. Most of those reports have recently come from Marca and have received short shrift from the Spurs faithful.

The paper has substantial links to Los Blancos so are always going to be trying their best to be favourable to Real Madrid’s pursuit of the player.

So, what would Spurs fans prefer? Gareth Bale or the whopping great big chunk of money the Spanish outfit are ready to throw at you for him?

I get it.

I do.

It is Gareth flipping Bale we are talking about here. At the moment the Welsh wizard is probably the best of the rest behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo; and about one 40 goal season away from joining the pair at the banquet table of professional footballers.

Selling him would on the one hand be madness for the club. Bale is the man who can fire them to glory. Bale can drag them kicking and screaming into the Champions League.

Selling him also sends out the wrong message. Are Spurs a selling club? Will be the question people ask.

But ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY MILLION EUROS!

With today’s exchange rate that translates to roughly £103.5 million. A world record for a professional footballer.

Imagine what Spurs could do with that sort of money? They could sign Roberto Soldado straight away and could join the race for pretty much any footballer on the planet and bring in three quality players throughout the team.

I know it is tough to let go of someone as good as Bale but if As are correct and Real are willing to spend £103.5 million on the man; then I hate to say it but he has to go.

Which would you prefer?
