With transfer rumours and gossip galore this morning revolving around the likes of Cazorla, Fabregas, Suarez, Bale, Gomis and pretty much everyone who is anyone sometimes it is nice to take a break from it all.
So to do so I am casting back to this exact day, the 27th July 2013, but a year earlier.
What were the main transfer tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?
Here are some of the big scoops from the 27th July 2012…
Please Sir, may I have some Moura
It was reported in the morning press that Sir Alex Ferguson had had it up to here (imagine his bright red-face, chewing gum and raising his arm way above his head) with Sao Paolo.
The Brazilian club just would not budge on their £30 million price-tag for the teenage starlet with United looking for a deal more in the £20 million region.
After two weeks of negotiations it was reported they were ready to offer £27 million plus add-ons as a ‘take it or leave it’ bid.
In the end, they left it; selling Moura for €44.5 million to Paris Saint-Germain.
Off Adebay-or on?
It was reported that the Togolese protracted transfer from Manchester City was off after he reportedly ‘demanded that Manchester City pay the £5million transfer fee directly to him’.
It was a deal that dragged on for weeks but eventually Spurs got their man.
Some fans might wish they hadn’t.
The Nuri Sahin saga begins
Nuri Sahin ended up playing for Liverpool for six months and thanking god he got away from Brendan Rodgers when he left in January; but it all started here.
The journey which saw him pictured in an Arsenal shirt in one of the summer’s biggest transfer saga’s started with a general link to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
And right now most fans will be wondering what all the fuss was about.
In other transfer news from that day
- Southampton sealed the signing of young right-back Nathaniel Clyne for a reported compensation package of £2.5 million from Crystal Palace.
- QPR sealed a deal for Junior Hoilett - who went on to be one of the Premier Leagues biggest flops of 2012-13.
- Dimitar Berbatov was linked with Galatasaray. He eventually joined Fulham.
