Giussepe Rossi was at it again, scoring a double as Fiorentina continued their gluttony of goals.
The other day I made a rather bold prediction ahead of next season; that Fiorentina would win the Serie A title next season.
The club have done some excellent business in the summer with the transfer of Mario Gomez the marquee addition to La Viola’s ranks.
The Bayern Munich man will be ably supported in attack by the likes of Adem Ljajic and Giussepe Rossi while Massimo Ambrosini provides the steel in the heart of midfield.
They have built themselves an excellent outfit and with the excellent guidance of attacking minded manager Vincenzo Montella I really feel they could be a sensational revelation this season.
And pre-season has not done anything to quell my lofty theories regarding their aspirations for next season.
The club were at it again this Saturday handing out yet another thrashing in an exhibition; this time Apollon Limassol of Cyprus were the recipients.
The game in Florence ended up finishing 7-0 as Fiorentina painted the town purple with a sensational offensive performance that left their opponents stunned.
It was the clubs third game of pre-season, following on from ties against Cremonese and Trentino.
The club were also on viscous form in those games; winning 7-1 and 9-0 respectively.
That means Fiorentina have managed to score a whopping 23 goals in just their three pre-season matches. Sure the opposition may not be entirely up to scratch but the absolute gulf in class is highlighted by the sheer magnitude of their victories.
Former Manchester United starlet Giussepe Rossi was also at it again. He has scored in all three of the fixtures; bagging a brace in this most recent romp.
His return from a series of serious knee injuries is like a new signing for the club and the fans cannot wait to see the man United let join Villarreal in 2007 in action this season.
The game against Sporting Lisbon will likely tell us much more about the state of this Fiorentina outfit but another romp and they will have to be taken seriously next season.
But for now they can revel in another thrashing; the video of which you can see below….
