Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that talks over a new deal for Gareth Bale are ongoing. Bale has been linked with a big money move to Real Madrid but Spurs have set the wheels in motion over a new contract for the winger, which will keep him at White Hart Lane.
Gylfi Sigurdsson has backed the club’s new deal for Bale, saying he thinks the Welshman will sign on the dotted line and pledge his future to the club. Sigurdsson says it’s vital for Spurs to hang onto Bale because it increases the quality of player the club can attract.
Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen is touch and go to be fit for the club’s Premier League opening match against Crystal Palace. The Belgian picked up an ankle injury in the pre-season friendly defeat against Sunderland and is expected to be out of action for two to three weeks.
Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly undeterred in his efforts to sign Spanish striker Roberto Soldado from Valencia. Valencia’s president has denied that a deal is close, with the Spanish side holding out for a £26 million fee, which would trigger the buy out clause in the player’s contract.
Napoli have reportedly edged ahead of Spurs in the race to sign Jackson Martinez from FC Porto. Martinez recently hinted that he was looking to stay at the Portuguese club but Napoli’s wealth has led to reports of a five-year deal for the player worth around £11 million.
Nacer Chadli has officially joined Tottenham Hotspur in a £7 million deal from FC Twente. Chadli has agreed personal terms with the club and has passed a medical. He scored 12 goals in the top flight of Dutch football last season, which attracted the interest of several big clubs.
Chadli is likely to make his debut in the friendly match against Monaco on August 3. He has been part of Spurs’ squad training in Asia during the current Barclays Asia Trophy but he won’t be available for the match against South China which takes place tomorrow.
Turkish club Besiktas have revealed they are very close to a deal for Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor. The striker has been linked with a move away from the club for most of the summer despite featuring fully in the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.
Atletico Mineiro have set a £22 million asking price for talented youngster Bernard. The 20-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs’ arch rivals Arsenal, but AVB could still push for a move to sign the Brazilian from under the nose of Arsene Wenger.
