Manchester United latest: Including Cerezo Osaka and Fabregas ‘setback’

News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.

Manchester United drew 2-2 against Cerezo Osaka today. Youngster Wilfried Zaha scored a late equalizer to tie the pre-season friendly.

United boss David Moyes is concerned by the pitch in Hong Kong where the Red Devils are due to play on Monday against Kitchee FC.

"It is a killer pitch with this weather, it is dangerous, at this stage of the season especially,” said the Scot.

First team coach and former United defender Phil Neville believes Moyes has been preparing for this job his whole life after taking the reigns from Sir Alex Ferguson after 26 years at Old Trafford.

“David has been preparing for this job all his life and whether it be at Preston or Everton he has, at the back of his mind, always been thinking that one day he wanted to manage the best,” revealed Neville.

“He has the drive and the determination and already he has the respect of the players.”

In transfer news, new Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino insists Cesc Fabregas will not be sold, despite United’s efforts to bring the former Arsenal captain back to the Premier League.

"I'm not going to involve myself in the club's accounts, but considering the club has already rejected two offers, I would guess it will reject a third," he said.

"In other words, Fabregas will remain here."

However, the Daily Mail claims Fabregas is ready to quit Barcelona and has told ‘friends’ in England that he is keen to link up with his former Arsenal teammate Robin van Persie at United.

Meanwhile, The Guardian asserts that Wayne Rooney will not be sold even if United sign Fabregas.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is ‘calm’ over the Blues’ pursuit of Rooney after United rejected a bid from the Europa League winners for the England number 10.

The M.E.N claims United are still in the hunt for Cristiano Ronaldo with a potential £80 million bid being prepared to lure the Real Madrid star back to Old Trafford this summer.

United target Thiago Alcantara insisted he was ‘never going to United’, despite claims to the contrary from his own father.

"The truth is that in no moment did United come to us and talk to us. It came from the press, it was always a lie," he said.

Meanwhile, United youngster Ryan Tunnicliffe is set to join Ipswich Town on loan.

Finally, United have handed youngster Adnan Januzaj a new contract due to his fine form on the pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia.
