Brendan Rodgers has suggested Pepe Reina’s loan deal to Napoli is a result of the links to Barcelona towards the back end of last season, and that the goalkeeper's apparent desire to leave ultimately cost him his spot. Rodgers has revealed that he signed Simon Mignolet expecting to lose Reina and the club will review his future at the end of the new season.
In another transfer story, Liverpool may not have the chance to go after Spanish striker Roberto Soldado. Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has reiterated his desire to sign the forward with Valencia holding out for a fee in the region of £26 million which would seal the deal.
Liverpool have also been connected with talented teenager Sinan Kurt of Borussia Monchengladbach. The 17-year-old has been likened to Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus and is already a regular at youth level for the German national team. Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are among the other clubs interested.
Brendan Rodgers says Arsenal are no good for striker Luis Suarez. The Liverpool boss has questioned the striker’s desire to go from Liverpool to North London, suggesting Suarez should follow through on the current project Rodgers is creating at Anfield.
Liverpool youngster Jordon Ibe says he is driven by his rivalry with colleague Raheem Sterling. Both players are fighting for a wide position in the Liverpool first team and while Ibe admits they’re friends away from the pitch, the competition makes him determined to work a little bit harder.
Sterling has said himself that he will be looking to prove his worth to Brendan Rodgers, with the hope of regaining his first team place before the start of the season. Sterling says he will continue to work hard and hopefully take his chances when he is given game time.
Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre says the club are desperate to hang onto striker Luis Suarez. The forward continues to be linked with a move to Arsenal, with some reports suggesting he will demand permission from the club to talk to the Gunners over a possible move.
Liverpool legend John Aldridge has suggested Liverpool deserve better treatment than they are currently getting from Luis Suarez. Liverpool have stuck by Suarez through some difficult periods and Aldridge says the forward owes the club a little bit of loyalty as a result.
