Guillem Balague tells Manchester United and Arsenal fans how it is on Cesc

Cesc Fabregas to Manchester United, or even Arsenal? Not according to the man with the inside track...

When Cesc Fabregas left Arsenal for Barcelona, Spanish journalist Guillem Balague was ahead of the game, breaking the news that the player had told Arsene Wenger of his intention to quit the club.

He was also the first to break the news that Manchester United had bid for the player this summer, news later verified by manager David Moyes.

Barcelona have been resistent to United's advances so far, despite reports in The Mail last night stating that the player is keen on a move to Old Trafford, while Arsenal have also been linked with invoking a buy-back clause.

And club vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu said today: "United's interest for Cesc Fabregas is obvious, he's a great player but it does not bother us. It does not matter what they offer us [because] we are not selling him. If there was a higher offer, no, we would not accept it.'

And a certain Mr Balague was confronted on Twitter earlier today for his view on the saga. Did he have an alternative viewpoint to spin? Do United still have hope? It seems not.

His clear response may be seen as somewhat ironic given the fact he was the one who broke the rumours in the first place, but they were accurate - he is not always right, as United fans have seen before, but on Cesc he has always been well-informed; and it seems now that United are chasing up a blind alley.

Even still talk in the press continues about United chasing him, with Paul Scholes stating he would welcome a United move for the ex-Arsenal man.

But the odds are stacking up against it. United will have to push on and pursue other targets, and with time running out, it's probably time they moved on sooner rather than later, and simply perhaps like Arsene Wenger has insinuated, revisit the possibility next summer instead.
