Barcelona send a message to Manchester United over Cesc Fabregas

He's not for sale! It doesn't matter if United bolster bid, the playmaker will stay in Catalonia.

Josep Maria Bartomeu, the vice president at Barcelona, has admitted that the club are flattered by Manchester United's fondness for Francesc Fabregas - he is a 'great player' - but added that Cesc is not for sale and will remain at Camp Nou.

Spanish journal AS first quoted Bartomeu to have said that United's interest is good but that any fee the Premier League club offer will be turned down by the reigning La Liga champions.

He added to reporters later: 'United's interest for Cesc Fabregas is obvious, he's a great player but it does not bother us. It does not matter what they offer us [because] we are not selling him. If there was a higher offer, no, we would not accept it.'

The news follows David Moyes' declaration that United's bidding process over Fabregas was 'ongoing', as reported by HITC earlier, but it is not the first time Bartomeu has spoken out over the protracted saga as, just last week, he said they would not entertain any offers for the player.

Incoming boss Gerardo Martino, formerly of Newell's Old Boys, added that if it were down to him, he would keep Fabregas on the club's playing roster: 'I won't get involved in the economic interests of the club, but [I would want to] have him here.'
