Roma lodge £7m for Arsenal forward; will this boost the Luis Suarez fund?

Gervinho could be set to swap London and the Premier League for Rome and the Serie A, but could this help Arsenal's number one target?

Out of favour Ivorian forward Gervinho, 26, has reportedly agreed personal terms with Serie A side AS Roma.

The current deal, according to Gazetta dello Sport, is worth £6.91 million but Arsenal have negotiated hard and would want up to £8m. If the clubs agree a fee the vast majority could be added to Arsenal's own transfer kitty in order to add to the recent £40m+£1 bid the Ashburton Grove side made for Uruguayan phenom Luis Suarez.

A player shuffled around the front three positions whilst in North London, Gervinho struggled for goals during his two seasons under Arsene Wenger and returned a sub-par five goals from 18 Premier League appearances last year. This did not discourage Roma, however, as new coach Rudi Garcia has long been keen on the attacker.

The extra money may persuade Wenger to up his offer for Suarez, a player who has got a potential value of £50m-£55m hanging over his head. While the Gunners will unlikely pay that much, they could put together a £45m fee with bonuses/add-ons included dependent on the success both player and club go on to have.

Roma, meanwhile, may look to balance their own books by offloading £8.6m-rated Pablo Osvaldo, who Fulham are reportedly keen on.
