Manchester City latest: Including Pepe alternative for €9m and Toure praise

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad...

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has been talking about new manager Manuel Pellegrini, and he was effusive in his praise.

Unbelievable, great things, his ability to manage is unbelievable and he’s doing fantastically well,” Toure said of the former Malaga boss.

We are all focused on him and trying to understand what he wants us to deliver and what he wants us to do on the pitch.”

The Ivory Coast international has high hopes for the season ahead, in no small part due to the new arrivals.

Speaking of Fernandinho, Alvaro Negredo, Stevan Jovetic and Jesus Navas he added, “They are amazing, amazing. I already know them because some of them have come from Spain. They are great players and we welcome them to Man City.”

One man who could be joining them is Valencia defender Adil Rami. The French centre-back would be a far cheaper alternative than reported City target Pepe.

According to reports in Spain, Rami’s side are asking for £7.75million for the 27-year-old. And if true, that would be a bargain for a player whose release-clause was previously £21.5million.

Having rejuvenated his midfield and forward-line, Pellegrini is believed to be considering defensive reinforcements; a task that will become more important if Joleon Lescott refuses to sign a new contract.

The England international is said to be stalling over his future despite the offer of a new contract on the table.

Having played second-fiddle to Vincent Kompany and Matija Nastasic last season, and with the World Cup approaching, the 30-year-old is seeking assurances that he will get regular football in the coming campaign.

Competing as they will be on four fronts, and with the prospect of injuries and suspensions, Lescott has already been hailed as vital by his new manager. But how vital may ultimately decide how much longer he remains with the Blues.

West Bromwich Albion are the latest club to be linked with a loan move for Scott Sinclair. This comes a day after Everton were said to be interested in the former Swansea winger.

Unlikely to feature much for City next season, the decision may ultimately rest with the player as to where he plays both in the short and the long term.

And finally, Roma’s Francesco Totti has urged teammate Daniele De Rossi to remain at the Italian club amid reported interest from English clubs including City.

It’s better if you give us the present,” Totti said, “so stay here at Roma and at least we’ll win something great together.”
