News and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.
Arsenal have recently been linked with the £21 million signature of Brazilian international Bernard from Atletico Mineiro. The diminutive playmaker was in action last night in the Copa Libertadores final; and helped his side to a penalty shoot-out victory against Olimpia in Porto Alegre.
But after the game his agent’s Tweet might have given us a clue that the youngster is indeed leaving. It is confirmed he has offers from England, Shakhtar Donetsk and Porto but the club will make the final decision. But the agents Tweet suggests he is on his way:
Congratulations, Bernard. Double-winner! Confederations Cup, Libertadores... the perfect farewell.
Brendan Rodgers says that if Arsenal are serious over the pursuit of Luis Suarez then they should vastly improve their offer. He says that the Uruguayan is worth much more than the £40m plus a £1 recent offer. It is believed Liverpool will not be selling for anything less than £50 million this summer.
He has also reminded Suarez once again of the support he has received from himself, the club and the city and believes he should be thankful via loyalty.
Everyone has been having a good old chortle at the pictures coming out from Arsenal’s tour of the Far East this morning. Arsenal’s German duo Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker dressed in full Samurai gear during a trip to Urawa. And who said Germans don’t have a sense of humour…?
Arsenal are now expected to move in for Julio Cesar. Yesterday saw Pepe Reina pass a medical at Napoli signalling his deal to join the Italians is imminent; proving once and for all that a deal for Cesar and the Partenopei is dead. Arsenal are now the massive favourites to sign the player; but that will not be on a loan deal as QPR have ruled that out as an option.
Arsenal are now in negotiations with AS Roma over a potential sale of Gervinho to the Giallorossi. Gervinho worked with new Roma boss Rudi Garcia at Lille. It is believed a £5 million bid has been rejected but one of £7 million should be enough for the Gunners to cut their losses with the player.
