Manchester City ready to compete on all fronts…
Imposing Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany, 27, has praised the club's recent imports, lauded their adaptability and has been encouraged at the team's competitive desire. This, the Belgium international claims, will stand them in good stead when they launch an assault to re-claim the Premier League crown from local rivals Manchester United.
'We are a team that can look forward and say that we can compete on every front,' said Kompany to Manchester Evening News. Perhaps noting Chelsea's Andre Schurrle deal and the transfer of Paulinho to Tottenham Hotspur, he added: 'A lot of clubs have made statements in the past couple of weeks. I’d just say we definitely have the intention to be champions again.'
Kompany also believes the £86.9 million combined fee for Fernandino, Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic has already proven to be money well spent as they all fit in with the training ground culture.
'The level and the intensity of training we have been doing is extremely high and the new players have fitted straight in,' said Kompany to the club's official website.
'You can tell that the homework has been done and we have brought in some very good players. In training it is clear that everyone wants to be part of this team and that everyone is ready to compete.'
