All of the latest Liverpool news and transfer rumours.
Liverpool secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory earlier today. Goals from captain Steven Gerrard and new signing Iago Aspas were enough to see Liverpool over the line in the friendly game, which included a substitute appearance from Luis Suarez.
Luis Suarez reportedly wants to talk to Arsenal following the Gunner’s second bid for the player. Arsenal offered precisely £40,000,001 for Suarez which he believes has triggered a clause in his contract, giving him the right to talk to the North London side over a possible move. Liverpool, quite rightly, maintain he’s not for sale.
Liverpool owner John Henry took to his Twitter account to mock Arsenal’s approach for Luis Suarez. Henry Tweeted “What do you think they're smoking over there at Emirates?” following Arsenal’s second bid for the striker which was £1 over the £40 million mark.
Pepe Reina is about to be reunited with former manager Rafael Benitez after flying out to Napoli to complete a loan move. The goalkeeper will spend the season with the Serie A club, which means Simon Mignolet is free to hold down the number one position at Anfield.
Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue is reportedly being considered as a possible signing for Brendan Rodgers. Rodgers is thought to be lining up a move for the Frenchman if the club fails to sign Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen from Dutch club Ajax.
Lucas Biglia has ended any chance of a possible move to Liverpool by signing for Serie A side Lazio. Liverpool were thought to be keeping one eye on the Argentinian midfielder who has signed a five-and-a-half year deal with Lazio ahead of the new season.
Former Liverpool player and manager Graeme Souness says he thinks Luis Suarez should stay at the club. Souness says there is no better football club or group of supporters in England than Suarez finds at Anfield, suggesting the striker should take it on himself to get the club into the Champions League.
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard says he hopes the club are on the verge of some success after a flurry of summer signings: “Is success around the corner? I hope so. We have bought well in the off-season and if we can get another two players in key areas then we have a good chance,” he told the Australian.
Philippe Coutinho says he is honoured to be so popular with Liverpool fans. The Brazilian has made a dramatic impact since his move from Inter Milan last January and he says the supporters make his life tremendously easy on the pitch with the support he receives.
