News and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.
The domination of the headlines once again with Arsenal stays with the hunt for a new striker. One player it will not be is Gonzalo Higuain. The move for the Argentine at one point seemed a done deal; but it simply seems that was never the case. Now, Italian outfit Napoli have swooped in and snapped up the striker for a fee of £31.8 million and he was greeted by hundreds of Napoli fans at Rome airport upon arrival.
The news with Luis Suarez is unfortunately a mixed bag. The £40,000,001 bid from Arsenal has been rejected by the club but Liverpool could now allow him the opportunity to talk to The Gunners. But despite this news Brendan Rodgers has reminded his player that he owes the club a debt of gratitude while the clubs owner John W Henry posed the question ‘’What do you think they’re smoking over there at Emirates?’’
This one looks like rambling on for a while.
If Suarez does not move to Arsenal then Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could be another option. The England international would reportedly consider a move to Arsenal if his dream to work with Jose Mourinho falls through. It is said that Rooney prefers a move to Chelsea but if The Blues cannot make a move materialise then Arsenal would be on his agenda.
Arsenal target Bernard has stated that his future lies in the hands of the Atletico Mineiro board. He claims a decision will be made after the clubs second leg of their Copa Libertadores final against Olimpia:
"In a week as important as this, I don’t want to talk about it. I do not want to be rude, but my focus is on the decision. My future at Atletico from Thursday is in the hands of the board."
An Arsenal player could soon be on his way to AS Roma. Ivorian striker Gervinho could be on his way to the Italian side in a deal said to be worth £6.9 million. Rudi Garcia, the new boss at Roma is interested in signing the player he worked with for two seasons whilst manager at Lille. He didn’t travel with Arsenal on their pre-season tour and is now all set for an Italian switch.
Finally and Julio Cesar’s agent claims that the interest in QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar is ‘concrete’. The Brazilian international recently saw a move to Napoli fall through and a move to The Emirates is now being regularly touted.
