Either Manchester United don’t understand the word “no”, or there is more to the Cesc Fabregas rumours than meet the eye.
Despite having a second bid of £30million reportedly rejected for the Barcelona midfielder, and despite the Spanish club reiterating that he is not for sale, David Moyes is said to be planning a third bid.
It is unlikely United would be so openly courting the player if they hadn’t been given some encouragement to do so. But with the future of the 26-year-old potentially in the hands of Barca’s yet to be named new boss, one wonders how long this will drag on…and how long United will allow it to.
While fans may be growing anxious at the lack of new faces, Moyes has moved to calm those nerves.
“Other managers have changed clubs too and everybody thought this might be the summer when transfers are done later,” he said.
“That was always the thought when I came into the club.”
But one player who may not be on his way to Old Trafford is Antonio Candreva.
The Lazio midfielder has been linked with a possible move to the champions – quite possibly if a move for Fabregas proves fruitless – but the Italian club have ruled out that possibility.
“He’s not for sale,” Lazio president Claudio Lotito said.
So that is the end of that…
Although haven’t Barcelona been saying the same about Fabregas for some time now? And yet the speculation continues.
