Arsenal should go all out for Luis Gustavo

The Bayern Munich midfielder might be allowed to leave this summer, and Luis Gustavo would be the perfect signing for Arsenal’s team.

Bayern Munich’s recent acquisition of Thiago Alcantara has left Pep Guardiola with an embarrassment of riches at his new club that even rivals the array of stars he had at his disposal at the Camp Nou.

Such is the depth of talent at the European champions, there has been speculation that they could allow Brazilian international Luis Gustavo to leave, with the 25-year-old likely to be keen to ensure he plays enough first team football next season to secure a starting place at next summer’s World Cup.

If there is a chance that Gustavo will be on the market this transfer window, then Arsenal should do everything within their power to the bring the Brazilian to the Emirates, as he looks a perfect fit for their side.

A composed defensive midfielder, Gustavo is also accomplished in possession, and could offer a slightly more tenacious alternative to Mikel Arteta. Gustavo can also cover in defence if needed, something that will appeal to Arsene Wenger given his current lack of depth at centre-back.

The price being quoted for Gustavo in the press is around £15million, which would be a snip for a 25-year-old Brazil international with plenty of experience at the top level in Europe.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Marouane Fellaini, but with Everton clear they will not let the Belgian leave for less than his £23.5million release clause, Gustavo could represent a cheaper option, freeing up funds for Wenger’s pursuit of a new striker.

Wolfsburg are also considering a move for Gustavo, with their general manager Klaus Allofs recently admitting their interest in the Brazilian, but with Arsenal able to offer Champions League football they would be well placed to win a battle with the German side.

The priority for Arsenal is still a new striker, with Luis Suarez, Gonzalo Higuain and Wayne Rooney all on their radar, but they should not miss the opportunity to sign Gustavo if he become available this summer, as the Brazilian could become a fixture in their midfield over the next few seasons.
