Liverpool transfer news: Mega Soldado bid ready, reason for Reina loan

All of the latest transfer stories to do with Liverpool.

Liverpool will attempt to hijack Tottenham Hotspur’s bid for striker Roberto Soldado.

Spurs had a £17 million bid for the forward rejected last week, with Valencia set to hold out for closer to their £20 million price for the player.

However, Spurs could be bypassed altogether with suggestions Liverpool are ready with a £22 million offer for the front man, which is a price that Spurs may be unwilling to match.

Brendan Rodgers has admitted Pepe Reina’s loan switch to Napoli is about saving the club his wages.

Reina had been linked with moves away from Anfield throughout the summer and he will now join Napoli on a season long loan from Liverpool.

“Financially it was something we needed to look at. That would be the reason because obviously you wouldn’t move on a top goalkeeper,” Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

Palermo midfielder Josip Ilicic has reportedly turned down the chance to join Liverpool, in favour of a move to Fiorentina.

Liverpool apparently went to Palermo with a bid, which was higher than the one Fiorentina had accepted but they were not able to convince the 25-year-old that a move to the Premier League was in his best interests.

Reports suggest the player’s desire to stay in Italy and Serie A as the reason he chose Fiorentina.
